The Anthropocene Kitchen – Visualising the Future of Food
The base project »The Anthropocene Kitchen: A laboratory connecting home and world« examines the kitchen as a site of energy exchange with immense impact in the Anthropocene era. This provides the context to examine interdependencies in town-country-world relationships. Anthropocene research seeks to learn systematically and self-reflexively from the past, the present day and future scenarios. The base project is producing an interdisciplinary, participatory non-fiction comic in this context, which involves close collaboration between our researchers and »expert citizens« from ten different countries. Each country has a chapter devoted to it, and the artists who translate the ideas into graphic form also come from the respective countries. In this way, the project aims to be as authentic as possible and to identify and experiment with different visual languages.
Ten »expert citizens« from ten different countries provide insights into their current food situation as the protagonists in the non-fiction comic. Together with the results of our researchers’ work, these perspectives are embedded in a narrative by a media designer and translated into visual form by the artists. Drawing from the findings in the individual chapters and the symposium, potential future paths are identified and implemented in the final chapter of the book, produced collectively by all project members.
